Scientists & Engineers as Civic Participants: Making a Difference in our Communities

As scientists and engineers we are often taught to view civic participation as separate from our professional responsibilities. But now more than ever before, our communities and governments need people who understand science and technology to help inform decisions about complex challenges. I will talk about my own professional journey, balancing a career in science and technology with active civic participation. I will also discuss how and why I founded Engineers & Scientists Acting Locally, an organization dedicated to increasing the number of people with backgrounds in STEM who are engaged with their local governments and communities.
